PAR's 2011 Solutions Conference - Scholarship Winner
Yahanas Tabb-Bey is known for his cheerfulness, enthusiasm, and friendship. Yahanas has always had the ability to raise the spirits of everyone he comes into contact with and to bring out the best in people he meets. However, Yahanas Tabb-Bey’s advocacy work began in earnest in 2002 when he joined the Chester County chapter of Speaking for Ourselves. The same year Yahanas also joined Citizen Advocacy in his home town of Phoenixville and works on the Theatre Events committee to this day. Since this time his accomplishments have been impressive.
In the fall of 2005, Yahanas became the president of the Chester County chapter of Speaking for Ourselves. Yahanas would hold this position for the next six years! That same year, Yahanas spent a month in India helping to plant trees and flowers at a school in Goa and spending a week at a Camphill Community in Bangalore. This trip raised awareness in India of the capabilities, potential and equality of people with disabilities. Yahanas has been a member of the Chester County Self-Determination Action Team.
In 2008, Yahanas received a citation from Chester County for Advocacy/Leadership. In 2009, Yahanas co-led a workshop on effective chapter meetings for the SFO annual conference. In 2010, Yahanas became a member of the Speaking for Ourselves board of directors. In 2011, Yahanas became the Vice President of the Chester County chapter of Speaking for Ourselves and joined the new fund raising committee.
Yahanas has been working for Acme Markets in Chester Springs for about five years where he takes pride in his work and his relationships with customers and coworkers.
